VR or fully Virtual Reality is an artificial environment that we create with special software and present to you in such a way that you suspend belief and accept it as a reality. On PC, virtual reality is primarily experienced through 2 of the 5 human senses: sound and sight.
It is the most immersive type of reality technologies and can convince the human that it is somewhere it is really not. Head mounted displays, used with headphones and hand controllers, provide a fully immersive VR experience. With big names like Facebook, Google, and Microsoft currently investing billions of dollars into immersive virtual reality solutions, the future of VR development is set to be a pillar of our everyday lives.
Virtual Reality give you the possibility to plunge into a world that is not really exists, with the help of VR headset (ссылка на VR headsets: what is the best?) and a computer. A realistic 3D image or artificial environment is developed with a mixture of interactive hardware and software, and presented to you in such a way that the any doubts are suspended. Eventually, the brain accepts it as a real environment with which you interact in a seemingly real or physical way.
An immersive virtual reality experience means that the sensory feeling is so real, that we forget it is a virtual-artificial environment and begin to interact with it as we would naturally in the real world. In a virtual reality medium, a completely synthetic world may or may not mimic the properties of a real-world environment. In VR we can simulate an everyday setting (e.g. walking around the streets of your city), or may exceed the bounds of physical reality by creating a world in which the physical laws governing gravity, time and material properties no longer hold (e.g. shooting space aliens on a foreign gravity-less planet). You can appear inside your favorite westerns (as in the case of Guns’n’Stories: Bulletproof VR – ссылка) or find yourself in a threatening technological future (as in Boiling Steel – ссылка).
We can note the following features of virtual reality:
✔ VR is COMPUTER-GENERATED
Important feature, ‘cause only powerful machines with realistic graphics are fast enough to create alternative, interactive, believable worlds that change in real-time as like we move around them.
✔ VR is INTERACTIVE
As you move around, the VR world needs to move with you. You can watch a 3D movie and be transported up to the Moon or down to the seabed – but it’s not interactive in any sense, because you don’t feel yourself in the center of the action.
✔ VR is BELIEVABLE
You really need to feel like you’re in your virtual world (on some unknown planet, like in Boiling Steel for example) and to keep believing that. In other way the illusion of virtual reality will disappear.
✔ VR is IMMERSIVE
VR literally makes it possible to experience anything, anywhere, anytime. It is best understood by first defining what it aims to achieve – total immersion. To be both interactive and believable, VR needs to engage both your mind and body. You can play a flight simulator game on your home PC and be lost in a very interactive experience for few hours (the landscape will constantly change as your plane flies through it), but it is not like using a real flight simulator (where you sit in a mockup of a real cockpit and feel actual forces as it tips and tilts), and even less like flying a plane.
✔ VR is EXPLORABLE
A VR world needs to be large and detailed enough for you to explore. However realistic a painting is, it shows only one scene, from one perspective. You know, a book can describe a vast and complex “virtual world,” but you can only really explore it in a linear way, exactly as the author describes it.
As you can see, virtual reality is rich enough in their possibilities to create for you worlds that are almost indistinguishable from real ones.
